Hotels & Resorts: Travel Tips by Those in the Know

Beachfront Getaways for the Holidays

So I was watching TV the other night and saw a commercial for this movie called Four Christmases (check it out) about this couple who ditches their family every Christmas and goes off to some tropical paradise instead. It’s got Vince Vaugn in it, so that’s three stars right there.

Anyway, don’t write me off as too cynical, but the commercial got me thinking: what’s wrong with that? You know, what’s wrong with the occasional beachfront getaway for the holidays. Everybody likes a change of pace now and again, and because it’s off-season, you stand to save big in the process.

Heck, you might even want to get the word out and bring the whole family along. Can you imagine it? Uncle Morty sipping a Mai Tai as a golden sunset roasts the horizon on Christmas Day. Talk about having something to remember! You’ll have stories for Christmases to come!

I thought I’d take the next few days to break down some great destinations and hotels at which to enjoy a beachfront vacation over the holidays. Bring the family or sneak out and make it just the two of you. You decide and enjoy!

Well, I sure can relate to the needing to get away scene. The other hilarious movie was the one with Tim Allen – Christmas with the Kranks (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0388419/) to get you in the mood for holiday travel. I have done that myself a few times with my family and ended up in the strangest of locations. One of my favorite last minute holiday vacations was in in Orlando. We stayed at the Holiday Inn International Drive and did the whole Disney and Universal holiday experience. It was my son’s birthday and we had the best family vacation ever. The Holiday Inn on International Drive (http://www.hi-idrive.com) was perfect because you can walk out the door and be within walking distance of great dining, shopping, and family activities. It is only a couple of miles from Universal and Sea World, plus lot’s of fun kid activities. It always seems (for my family at least) that impromptu vacations are always the most fun – maybe it’s because there are no expectations?
