First Night Boston – (Another) New Year’s Eve Idea

As I mentioned in my last post, when it comes to First Night celebrations, that is the traditional family-friendly New Year’s Eve festival, I’m a fan of the event in Alexandria, Virginia. The upscale-meets-historic atmosphere of the D.C. suburb just works for me.

Still, my conscience perhaps getting the better of me, I just can’t talk First Night without plugging the party that started it all, First Night Boston. What began with the hard work and dedication of just a few local Boston artists back in 1976 has bloomed into a massive cultural celebration bringing together music, dance, arts, comedy, sculpture and generous family entertainment for a one-night-a-year blowout.

Celebrating its 33rd annual event in just a few weeks, First Night 2009 is larger than ever with 40 performance venues, a kid-geared family festival, special traveling museum exhibits, free boat tours, ice sculptures, a humongous “Mardi Gras”-style parade featuring 800 artists and the traditional finale: an explosive fireworks display.

New Year's Eve

Of course, in keeping with the family-friendly spirit of the evening, all First Night Boston events are alcohol-free.

Learn more about First Night Boston and purchase admission buttons at http://www.firstnight.org/. Buttons are currently $15 each plus $3 for shipping.

Or, you can save yourself some money and time by staying at the Holiday Inn Boston at Beacon Hill, a convenient choice in Boston hotels near downtown. Not just a great location, the hotel is currently offering a First Night Package featuring family-sized accommodations and four admission buttons. Check out the package here.
