Hotels & Resorts: Travel Tips by Those in the Know

Outdoor Adventure Travel – Hampton, Virginia

Just a quick, get-your-butt-off-the-couch-and-do-something kind of post today.

Stop stressing out your checking account at theme parks, casinos, stage shows and predatory tourist dives when an entire world of cheap, even free outdoor entertainment is literally all around you (and it doesn’t much matter where you are). Stroll through a local park, strike up a game at a public baseball diamond, join a run for a cause, sponsor a match of full-contact Ultimate Frisbee, whatever it is, just get out there and enjoy the oxygen.

A particularly great place for a little outdoor fun is Hampton, Virginia. Featuring a mild climate that generally accommodates outdoor activities year-round (can get a little nippy come January), Hampton is brimming with parks, nature preserves, hiking and biking trails, intracoastal waterways and even a beach.

Unique to the Hampton area is the ability to kayak or canoe the intracoastal waterways of Back River. Equipment rental facilities are provided at a number of parks, the most popular of which is probably Buckroe Beach Park. You’re free to make your own path along the gorgeous waters, or you can take a guided paddling tour. Learn more about outdoor recreation in Hampton here.

For hotels in Hampton, VA, consider the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel. It’s located close to the Virginia Air & Space Museum, which is another huge area attraction, and it’s the only hotel in Hampton located on the waterfront.

I stayed at this hotel recently. It was beautiful! The lobby looked like a ship deck. The rooms were nautically themed, really cute, and I loved the fact that they had full legnth mirrors and cosmetic mirrors. The restaurants were all on the water and they were right next door to Hampton University. It was really nice… two thumbs up!

Thanks for your comments, Tamika. I’m glad you had a great experience with the hotel. We always do, too.
