The 2009 USA Travel Guide Pledge
Happy New Year’s to all!
I’ll keep it simple today since I know you’re likely reading this with one blood-shot eye.
In this New Year, and in these times of economic strife, let us resolve to combat the fiscal woes of our fellow man in the most American way: spending money. Don’t succumb to the penny-pinching propaganda that berthed such abominable terms as “staycation” or “naycation”. Don’t surrender to the flagrant fear-mongering of an economy that has only fear itself to be afraid of. Don’t withdraw when what the country needs most is for you to live.
This year, make a stand with the 2009 USA Travel Guide Pledge. I pledge:
- To travel somewhere I’ve never been
- To support “Green” hotels whenever possible
- To utilize public transportation whenever possible
- To support local businesses such as restaurants, newsstands and retail stores
- To avoid overpriced tourist traps
- To do as the locals do by seeking out independent, off-the-radar attractions
- To join the travel community online
- To take lots of pictures
- To read USA Travel Guide every day
Having taken this pledge, prepare to make 2009 a year to remember not for all the things that happened the world over, but for all the things that happened to you. Get packing!
