Wine Tours – Williamsburg Winery

Sure, sure, when you think American wine you probably think California. Napa Valley, Sonoma, that kind of thing. Maybe New York or Washington State. What you probably don’t think is Virginia, but the master oenologists at the Williamsburg Winery in Williamsburg, Virginia are seeing to it that one day you do.

Wine

The largest winery and vineyard in Virginia, the Williamsburg Winery produces not only the most Virginia wine with over 60,000 cases annually, nearly a quarter of the total state yield, but also what most would argue is the best Virginia wine, the Governor’s White. Opened not yet a quarter-century ago in 1985, the Williamsburg Winery rose to immediate acclaim with the White, earning a gold medal within two weeks of the first bottling. Today their selection of wines has expanded greatly to include several popular reds and varietals, including a markedly successful line of chardonnays.

Of course, guided tours and tastings are offered, but the Williamsburg Winery also hosts fun educational opportunities in the form of a casual Tour and Tasting Lunch or a guided pairing dinner. Learn more about the Williamsburg Winery here.

The winery also runs a country inn and for steadfast wine aficionados, this may be the way to go, but at USA Travel Guide we prefer the homier comforts and easy charm of Colonial Williamsburg, located just five miles out from the winery. Our favorite Colonial Williamsburg, VA hotel is surely the Crowne Plaza Colonial Williamsburg.
