
As I thumbed through the virtual news, specifically USAToday.com, I stumbled across an article that really hit home for us at USA Travel Guide. The headline reads, “As hotels struggle for business, some guests find an upside.”
It’s no lie: during times of economic downtown, the travel industry is especially vulnerable. Businesses start turning conferences into conference calls, families settle for staycations, and events throughout the nation are either canceled or severely reduced. Yet, every cloud has a silver lining, as evidenced by the article’s opening lines:
“Don Schmincke can’t believe the recent deal he got at a New York hotel. ‘I just stayed in Times Square at the Crowne Plaza for $250 a night – on New Year’s Eve!’”
Before you ask: yes, that’s the same Crowne Plaza Times Square Hotel that we mentioned just a few days ago in a piece about the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Take Mr. Schmincke’s experience to heart.
