I know Easter isn’t the “traveliest” of holidays, but that doesn’t stop cities and towns all over the country from throwing kickin’ festivals and parties to celebrate it. Some of these festivals really bear mention, in fact.
If you’re in California’s bay area next weekend, for instance, consider dropping in to the 18th Annual Union Street Spring Celebration & Easter Parade. Known as the “Biggest Little Parade in San Francisco”, the festival is a raucous amalgam of family fun and the indescribable spirit of San Francisco, not to mention a fabulous opportunity to experience the world-class food, music and entertainment that has long made San Fran one of the country’s most eclectic cities.
As an Easter celebration, the event and attraction line-up is decidedly family-oriented, but it’s still plenty appropriate for adults and couples. There’s a petting zoo, kids’ games and rides area, bouncy castles (sorry, dad, it’s kids only), pony rides, a climbing wall and plenty more. For the parents, kick up your feet and dance to live music by local favorites, and get a taste of San Francisco’s epicurean side with food selections from top Union Street restaurants. And then there’s the parade, of course, and it comes complete with unusual floats and over-the-top personalities sure to charm any spectator.
Unfortunately, close as the event is, we’re still waiting for more information as to specific vendors and performers. All I can say with absolute certainty is the Union Street Spring Celebration & Easter Parade will be held April 12, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Union Street in downtown San Francisco, approximately from Gough to Fillmore.
Learn more (a little bit more, that is), here.
The street fair is most popular among the locals, but if you’re traveling in, there’s no reason not to check it out yourself. For hotels in San Francisco, we’ll go with our two regulars, the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf and the Holiday Inn Express Fisherman’s Wharf. Both provide the family-friendly accommodations that the brand is known for and that most suit an event like this.
Have a great time!
