Scrapin’ the Coast – Events in Biloxi, Mississippi

From classic cars to lowriders to rat rods, the Mississippi Gulf Coast is a place where people know their cars and trucks, and they celebrate it with a seeming unlimited schedule of auto shows, events and festivals. Going on six years now, one of the biggest car and truck events in Biloxi, Mississippi is Scrapin’ the Coast, presented by Empress Audio & Marine, and if you plan to attend the 2009 event on June 19-21, the time to start making those arrangements is now!

With huge turnouts that keep getting bigger year after year, there’s no question that Scrapin’ the Coast is a top-notch event. While the showcase is surely on body-dropped cars and trucks, it seems like anyone with a ride to show is willing to make the trip. You’ll see no shortage of custom paint, classics, extreme mods, tuner cars, motorcycles, rat rods, rat bikes and even the occasion hi-riser just to keep you on your toes. Across trucks and cars, the judges will be looking at over 57 classes, so be sure to register your baby soon and show what you got.

Of course, you don’t have to compete to have a great time. There’s tons see and do:

Dozens of car part and paraphernalia vendors will be set-up around the Mississippi Coast Coliseum selling the latest in mod and custom gear, there’s a live music stage (bands haven’t been announced), a stereo competition, a bikini contest (held to the highest level of respect and decorum I’m sure), cash prizes, trophies, hydraulic and air bag competitions, a beach cruise and even frame dragging. Add to all that the hundreds of awesome cars and trucks to check out and you could be looking at a full three days of entertainment.

Scrapin’ the Coast will be held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum from June 19-21, 2009. The pre-registration fee is $45 outside and $75 inside, and you must register before entering the Coliseum. Get registration information, and info on everything else, at the event Web site.

The lodging page recommends a couple resort rental places, but we’ve got our own that we like more: The Ocean Club at Biloxi. Pretty much a go-to for Gulf Coast vacations, the Ocean Club offers upscale condominium rentals in a sweet location just moments from the Coliseum. It’s a great choice all around!
