Amusement Park Guide – Raging Waters in San Dimas, California

Water Ride - Image used with Permission

Our past amusement park articles have done really well in the traffic, no doubt due to my insightful commentary (okay, so it’s probably the parks themselves), and we we’re eager to feature another one as soon as possible. In honor of my wife, I have chosen Raging Waters San Dimas.

Why is it an honor? Because Raging Waters San Dimas is the very water park that the recently time-traveled Napoleon Bonaparte was abandoned at in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, one of my wife’s favorite movies and to this date one of mankind’s greatest achievements. If that weren’t enough, it’s also the largest water park in Southern California.

One of three massive parks helping the South Cali crowd keep cool all summer long, Raging Waters San Dimas is an action-packed, if traditional, water park blending classic favorites like the lazy river, body slides and wave pool with a welcome share of high-octane rides that even thrill-fans can enjoy. Notable among them is the Dark Hole, a 500-foot total darkness two person raft flume. I know you’ve seen it before, but the Dark Hole is notable as the very first in the country.

Another must is the awesomely titled High Extreme, a head-first mat slide that at 10-stories and 600 feet high, is among the nation’s longest and fastest slides, reaching speeds up to 35 miles per hour. If you think you’re up for an athletic challenge, take a shot at the Lily Pad, a short aquatic obstacle course straight out of Takeshi’s Castle.

There’s plenty for the younger set as well. Raging Waters has four kids sections ranging from very young to adolescent.

Raging Waters San Dimas begins daily service this Thursday. Standard adult admission is $35.99, however you can pick up $10-off coupons at local Albertsons grocery stores. No outdoor food or beverage is allowed at the park.

Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Raging Waters, we like the Radisson Covina Hotel. Good location, complimentary Internet, spacious suites, affordable rates. There’s not much to dislike.

I’ve been to California and her many theme parks a number of times but unfortunatley never stumbled across this water park! It sounds like it has a few must-do rides, the black hole sounds particularly scary. Will be sure to check it out next time.
