Big Bay Boom! – 4th of July in San Diego, California

4th of July in San Diego, California

We’re going out with a bang (ba dum pshh)!

We went to New York, and we went to Boston, but this time we’re hitting up the west coast for the Big Bay Boom!, the sensational 4th of July fireworks show in San Diego, California, and with 750,000 people projected to be joining us, you better make your reservations soon.

The evening of July 4th, four barges will sail into strategic positions throughout the iconic San Diego Bay, and at the strike of 9:00 p.m. they will commence in an explosive, Bay-wide flurry of sonic booms and sparkling colors. For sixteen-and-a-half minutes, the fireworks will paint the sky in fully-choreographed brilliance, a sight that every man, woman and child in San Diego will turn heads to see, mouths held open in wonderment. Be sure to turn the radio to 105.7 The Walrus if you can for the official musical accompaniment (or just do what I do and throw on “Ride of the Valkyries”).

We’re not the only ones who think it’s a good idea. The gurus over at ShermansTravel named Big Bay Boom the #7 Fourth of July Fireworks show in the country (read more).

The show is free, of course, and it will attract gobs of people, so make it easy on yourself by staying as close to the Bay as possible. The Holiday Inn San Diego on the Bay, for instance, is located as close as you can get, and they’re currently offering terrific packages and summer vacation rates. It’d be our choice for sure!

Have a great time on the 4th of July in San Diego, California.
