Body Art Expo in Pomona, California

The folks over at the Comic-Con put it on for a day. The folks at the Body Art Expo put it on for life.

The Body Art Expo at Pomona, California is the world’s largest tattoo and body art convention, hosting over 300 artists from studios nationwide as well as contests, live music, variety entertainment, demonstrations, awards, retail and tens of thousands of enthusiastic attendees. No room for the haters, this is one of the West Coast’s wildest parties.

Body Art Expo

Far more exciting than your average convention, the Body Art Expo is a chance to meet world-famous artists, schedule appointments and get work done live for the world to see. Every kind of permanent work is available, from flash to custom, characters to tribal, and dozens of body piercing professionals are also on hand.

If you’re not on the market for a new tat, there’s still plenty for you. When you get tired of watching the artists do what they do best, check in to one of the many awesome events. The afternoons feature live music on the concert stage, but each day really kicks off in the evening when the raucous contest schedule takes over.

There are daily tattoo contests in something like 19 categories (Tribal, Aztec, Unusual, Best Overall, etc.), as well as the Hot Babe and Hot Stud contests (”tattooed” folk only), the female-only “Hot Ass” contest, and then Saturday’s intriguing “Best Orgasm” contest. I can’t even imagine what that would be.

Friday and Saturday also host headline performers. Rapper Mack 10 on Saturday with Warren G opening things up on Friday.

These are just highlights in a sea of other stuff. Food, drinks, belly dancing, sideshows, human suspension acts, artist fusion demonstrations. The list goes on.

The Body Art Expo will be hosted at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, California on July 17-19, 2009. Single-day tickets will run you $25, or get all three days for $50. Despite what you might be thinking, organizers consider the event kid-friendly and welcome families. Organizers also suggest that if it’s not your scene, don’t bother coming.

For hotels near the Pomona Fairplex, we like the Radisson Suites Covina, CA Hotel. The rates are surprisingly approachable for the quality of room, and it’s a quick trip to the fairgrounds.

Have fun!
