It’s not the first time we’ve been to Canyon of the Eagles Lodge & Nature Park, but with summer vacation officially upon us now and thousands of families looking for something unique and affordable to do, there couldn’t be a better time to head back.
Canyon of the Eagles in Burnet, Texas is quaint, quiet cool. It doesn’t have the flash and dazzle of New York City or San Diego, and it’s proof enough that you don’t need it. Rustic yet more than hospitable, the Canyon of the Eagles lodge is situated on 940 acres of pristine Texas Hill Country, offering exploration, discovery and outdoor adventure for days.
Thankfully, with so much potential, you’re not left entirely on your own (if you don’t want to be). Daily guided programs are held to help guests get the most of the abundant reserve, many of which are offered for free. Participate to ensure you’re getting the best of the best, or strike your own path. At this place it’s really up to you.
So what is there to do at Canyon of the Eagles? Well, there’s only one TV in the whole place, so you can bet that sitting around and catching up on your soaps isn’t on the itinerary. Here’s what is:
Hiking – The reserve has over 14 miles of trail to tackle with incredible flora and fauna all along the way.
Hitting the Beach – The reserve features a private beach for lodge guests only.
Fishing – Adjacent to the beach you’ll find the fishing pier.
Canoeing – Enjoy a scenic, self-guided tour of the Colorado River from the surface of the water (also kayaking, sailing, and paddleboating).
The Traveling Naturalist – Learn a little something during your stay with fun and educational programs hosted by The Traveling Naturalist.
Eagle Eye Observatory – Located at the north end of the park, this observatory features a high-tech telescope and is free to visit (for guests).
Cowboy Poet – The “Cowboy Poet” Dennis Gaines is on hand sporadically to liven up the evenings with awesome stories and toe-tappin’ tunes from a real-life cowboy.
Vanishing Texas River Cruises – One of the Texas Hill Country’s star attractions, this riverboat cruise offers incredible sights of Lake Buchanan and the Colorado River Canyon. There are several tour options, but our favorite has to be the wine cruise, which includes a stop at the Fall Creek Vineyards.
With the exception of the wine cruise, we’re talking big time fun (that’s also healthful) for the whole family. Start learning all about the Canyon of the Eagles.
Not just surprisingly fun, Canyon of the Eagles is exceptionally affordable at the moment. Because this is functionally a resort-type experience, with much of the entertainment offered for free, the only thing you have to pay for is food at the restaurant (which we like a lot, actually) and your choice of excursions. Oh, and the room, of course, but that’s more affordable than ever. Check out the specials, including the discounted June pricing.
Make it a great summer family vacation in one of the nation’s best kept secrets (but not for long), the Texas Hill Country and the Canyon of the Eagles Lodge & Nature Park.
