Seems like every time we head to Phoenix we talk about something to do at night. I assure you, this is no coincidence. This is cold, calculated strategy, and “cold” has everything to do with it.
Okay, so maybe not cold, but you will be less hot if you visit the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona some beautiful summer night for their seasonal Garden Flashlight Tours. Held through the end of August, this tour lets guests explore the sun-soaked bounty of the botanical garden after hours when the night flowers bloom and the crawliest, slitheriest creatures come out. Not only do you beat the heat, you experience a one-of-a-kind look at a truly awesome habitat.
Like the best of its kind, the Desert Botanical Garden is an ever-shifting menagerie. Every week, every day even, offers new plants to discover, so I can’t exactly broadcast your whole evening. I can hit the highlights, however. The garden is known best for its collection of cacti, featuring over ten thousand plants and over thirteen hundred types like the rare crested saguaro (pictured). Agave plants are also plentiful.
The 140-acre site is arranged into trails, all of which may or may not be open at night for the flashlight tour. If open, don’t miss the Cactus & Succulent Gallery.
The Desert Botanical Garden is open daily, but the Garden Flashlight Tours are only held on Thursday and Saturday evenings through the end of August. That means there are only seven left as of this writing. This attraction is located in Phoenix’s Papago Park. Learn more.
Got a great new Phoenix hotel for you today, a new brand we’re keeping an eye on. The Hotel Highland at Biltmore is located in the renowned Phoenix Biltmore area and brings a lot cool flourish to the table. Local art used through the hotel (and up for sale), urban-desert design and boutique-quality service. It’s cool stuff.
