I thought we’d lend a little love to our most northerly readers. After all, when you’re dealing with five and a half hour days, there’s nothing like a raucous New Year’s Eve party to brighten the mood.

If you live in the area, of if you’re just looking to really trump your friends’ stories this year, celebrate New Year’s Eve in uncommon style in stunning Anchorage, Alaska. I’ve got your whole night planned out.

It starts with dinner at the Inlet Tower. You’ll be staying at this popular downtown Anchorage hotel later in the night, so take the opportunity after check-in to grab a peak of the area, maybe enjoy a refreshing walk, and then tuck in to a delicious dinner at Mixx Grill. Since debuting with a new chef and a new menu a few months ago, Mixx has been turning a lot of culinarian heads around town. It’s the perfect place to grub up for the evening. Learn more.

Grab your heavy coat next, because you’re headed out. The Alyeska Resort is located about an hour south of Anchorage in the town of Girdwood, so hit the pavement as soon as you can. This New Year’s Eve, the ski resort will host an awe-inspiriting torchlight parade on the mountainside. Skiers and snowboarders will cut down the slopes with bamboo torches in hand, creating a flowing river of light against the dark mountain. There’s really nothing else like it. Continue the party there, or hit the road back to the Inlet Tower in downtown Anchorage where the lounge is open late and the champagne will be flowing. We actually recommended returning to the hotel so you can party to your heart’s (and stomach’s) content and then just walk to your room to sleep off the damage.
