Talofa Tall Ship Cruises – Excursions in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

More stories from my recent adventures to Mexico.

In this afternoon’s post, I represent my companions more so than myself, as I spent almost the entire trip flexing my muscles into absolute stillness, waiting patiently for the sweet release of death (or Dramamine, whichever came first).

My seasickness aside, I can still admit that a Talofa Tall Ship Cruise is a phenomenal way to explore Cabo San Lucas and the sparkling Sea of Cortes. “Talofa” is a Samoan word meaning “welcome” or “hello”, and if you take a cruise I think you’ll agree there’s no name more fitting.

Captain Cactus and his crew of two mates are able sailors first and foremost, but really excellent hosts as well. From teaching you how to cast a jib to giving guests a chance at the wheel, sailing out on the Talofa is a hands-on adventure that proves so much more than looking at scenery.

Los Arcos

Not that there’s anything wrong with the scenery. Casting out of Marina San Lucas, you’ll be upon Baja California’s most famous sight, Los Arcos, in no time. Before that even, you’ll pass by Lovers Beach, a cozy, isolated beach and popular swimming, snorkeling and scuba-diving spot. It’s fun to bask in the misty winds at the front of the boat, but I actually recommend hanging back, where Captain Cactus will fill you in on the history of the Sea of Cortes and some of these amazing locations.

There are a number of Cabo San Lucas tours available on the Talofa. The Sail-and-Snorkel cruise offers a breathtaking tour of the bay followed by a chance to swim or snorkel near Lovers Beach. You can also have great luck on Whale Watching tours with Talofa, because the wooden boat operates so quietly, especially when sailing. Whales don’t mind coming right on by. Sunset sails of the Arch sound like a real winner, though untried by me.

They even host weddings.

If cruising the Sea of Cortes on a 100-foot, 83 year-old sailing ship doesn’t seem like a good time to you, you’re in the wrong hobby. Learn more about the Talofa Tall Ship Cruises here.

Staying in Los Cabos? Our favorite Los Cabos resort has long been the Hilton Los Cabos Beach and Golf Resort. The service and ambiance are five stars and beyond. The restaurants are exquisite. The rooms simply humongous. We’ve enjoyed a flawless stay, every time.
