I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I will champion any event, company or program which invites its guests to “experience the awesomeness”. That’s only one sponsorship away from doing “the dew”.
Indeed, that’s the creed of Awesome April in Nashville, Tennessee, a city-wide musical celebration of being awesome that lasts not one weekend, not two weekends, but four whole weekends of nonstop dude-itude. (I’ll stop before I venture off message.)
Here’s how it works: throughout the month of April, Nashville goes into overdrive hosting the big name concerts acts they’re known for, and they throw on a heaping helping of comedy, performance art, film and more. All of the events are offered individually – there’s no Awesome April tickets, as it were – there’s just a boatload more of them.
Simply put, if you want to experience the world-class entertainment (i.e. the awesomeness) that makes Nashville what it is, April is the time to do it!
What on the docket for 2010? More than I can list, but I’ve cherry-picked a few of my favorites:
Tin Pan South – low-key, but never low on surprise, this music festival celebrates songwriting and songwriters
Doug Benson – that guy from Best Week Ever that isn’t Paul F. Tompkins is a real person. He does comedy on stages
Vampire Weekend – I’m a writer first and foremost, and any band that sings a song about Oxford commas is alright in my book
Nashville Film Festival – 200+ films make this the largest film festival in the Southeast
Daniel Tosh – weird thing about Daniel Tosh: the first time I saw his show, Tosh.0, I hated it. Then I watched the next episode, and I’ve loved it ever since.
11th Annual Ragin’ Cajun Crawfish Boil – do Cajun people ever tire of being referred to as “ragin’”? It’s not exactly a nice thing to say.
David Sedaris – for better or worse, the liberals’ favorite humorist will come to Nashville
