For classic car and roadster enthusiasts, the cool South Cali community of Pomona is an exhaust-fueled Mecca. Several times a year, the rad roadsters roll in from all over the country to swap, sell and show-off their vintage rides. 2010 has already seen the Grand National Roadster Show back in January, and next month those beautiful hot rods will drive in once more for the 46th Annual L.A. Roadsters Show and Swap Meet.
With nearly half a century’s practice, the Los Angeles Roasters Car Club definitely knows how to put on a car-lovers’ shindig. At its heart is the gargantuan gallery of post-1936 roadsters that have been refinished to a luminescent sparkle. Some original, some custom, all a treat to behold. Last year, 860 roadsters drove in for the main show. No small feast for the car fanatic.

Then again, that’s really not the half of it. Next door you’ll find the specialty lot, where a vast assortment of pre-75 classics, rods, and the unclassifiable show up to strut there stuff. While you might see the occasional blasphemy, I still say this is the place to be. Custom paint, retro mods, slick suede – keep your cameras at the ready is really what I mean. Buyers and sellers have the most luck in this lot as well.
You could probably walk the lanes all day, but you certainly don’t have to. Every day of the show there’s something worthwhile to check out. Saturday brings a special show for ‘35 and ‘36 Fords, as well as a morning and afternoon Cacklefest, which depending on your noise tolerance could be a reason to come or go. There’s a huge manufacturers area and swap meet where you can find pristine vintage parts and bargain for prices. Also a Pin Stripers Circus, which I reckon you have to see to really understand.
If you’ve got a roadster, you can drive in to the L.A. Roadsters Show for free, registration required. Public/spectator admission is $17, or you can purchase a 2-day weekend pass for $25. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
The L.A. Roadsters Show and Swap Meet will be held at the L.A. County Fairplex in Pomona, California on June 19-20, 2010. You can get more details and register here.
