We’ve already seen what Dayton, Ohio can do with planes on the ground, and the results are good. But come on, this is a town made famous for flying! The longtime home of Orville and Wilbur Wright, the city even holds as its motto: “The Birthplace of Aviation.” When a place like that puts on an air show, admittedly expectations are, ahem, high.
Naturally, Dayton delivers. See the high-flying action for yourself this July at the annual Dayton Air Show at Dayton International Airport. Widely regarded by enthusiasts throughout the county as one of the best, the Dayton Air Show is the perfect blend of aerospace acrobatics, historical attractions and family fun.
As with any air show, the most important question is, “What’s in the sky?” The 2010 Dayton Air Show has a really good answer: “Almost everything!” Here’s a look at some of the featured performers:

- The Blue Angels – the elite precision flying team of the U.S. Navy are arguably the most famous flight squad in the world. Their dazzling shows have been experienced by over 400 million lucky flight fans.
- “Fat Albert” – an all-Marine crew operates this massive C-130T Hercules, a regular support aircraft to the Blue Angels.
- Sean D. Tucker – a “Living Legend”, Sean D. Tucker achieves aerial acrobatics of such astonishment, sometimes even seeing isn’t believing. Have you ever seen a plane fly backwards? You will.
- AeroShell Acrobatic Team – a four-bird team with awesome smoke and aerials tricks.
- Team Fastrax Skydiving Team – the official skydivers of the Dayton Air Show, this team is the epitome of the precision freefall.
Plus lots, lots more. Check out all the Featured Performers.
If you can keep your eye off the sky for just a minute, you’ll find plenty more to see and do. There will be over 100 grounded planes to tour up close, including fighter planes and private aircraft. You can even step inside a massive cargo plane. Kids and families, too, have plenty to do. For the little ones, a visit to the Vectren Kids’ Hangar is all but a must. Games, face-painting and other classic festival fun.
