What’s more important to know: that Palmilla was the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Latin America or that the club has pulled in a heavy-hitting roster of awards since day one? Neither. The important thing to know is that Palmilla is an exemplary game of golf, every time.
Palmilla Golf Club consists of three 9-hole courses and allows players to mix and match two for a standard 18-hole game. The three courses – Arroyo, Mountain and Ocean – are each subtly different in both pace of play and style, while still contributing to a cohesive game. Impressively, and unusually even in Mexico, every hole features views of the Sea of Cortez, the brilliant gulf between Baja California and mainland Mexico.
Really you can’t go wrong with any combination, but USA Travel Guide strongly recommends you include the newer Ocean course in your day. This inspired course puts the breathtaking beauty of the sea and the gentle slopes of Baja California’s foothills in exact harmony. Holes one through six pit you against a staggering 600-ft. climb, building towards a challenging finish. It’s arguably the best nine holes of golf in Los Cabos.
Los Cabos golfing is zealous and engaging and everything you want it be – but it’s not cheap. Depending on time and season of play, green fees can run anywhere from $80-220 dollars (US). The trick to enjoying on a budget is to have your cake and then eat it somewhere else.

The best place is The Country Club golf course. It’s just out of Cabo San Lucas about a mile. San Jose golf course is also good. The Country Club is more challenging. Both are public.
