Hotels & Resorts: Travel Tips by Those in the Know

The Taste of Beverly Hills – September 2-5, 2010

I’ve managed to cast a pretty good roster of top-quality restaurants here in USA Travel Guide’s home town of Dallas, Texas. Dallas isn’t famous for its cuisine – we have no signature dishes – but that won’t stop you from scrounging up a five-star meal if you know where to look.

Still, I do pine to live in one of our major food cities like New York, Las Vegas or Los Angeles one day. In a place like that you’ll find incredible variety, celebrity chefs and a restless sense of adventure. Dallas is often accused of being behind the times. I want to live on the cutting edge!

But you know what? Maybe I don’t have to live there. Maybe all I need to satiate my food envy is a taste. Like, for instance, the Taste of Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California.

Taste of Bevery Hills 2010

As with everything else, when Beverly Hills throws a food festival, it does it with style. The Taste of Beverly Hills, hosted September 2-5, 2010 adjacent to the Los Angeles Country Club, is an upscale food festival bringing together favorite food personalities, celebrity and award-winning chefs, headline entertainment and, of course, the very best restaurants in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. If you can’t live in L.A., there’s simply no better way to get a taste of the town.

Taste of Beverly Hills is structured very tightly, so you’ll want to consider your ticket choices carefully. On the main days, there are two possible “sessions”: a morning/afternoon session and an evening session. While each session promises unlimited food and drink, plus a wealth of entertainment, each is themed differently. The theme of the session influences the food, the restaurant vendors, the wine choices and which chefs and special guests will be present.

For instance, Saturday afternoon is “Secrets from the Kitchen and Cellar”, featuring a rigorous schedule of live cooking demos from top chefs throughout L.A. as well as national favorites like Ted Allen and Art Smith. All the while, guests delight to unlimited samples from 40-plus L.A. restaurants and glasses from even more California wineries. It’s roughly four hours of gourmet indulgence, and that’s what the ticket gets you – no more or less.

Other sessions this year are devoted to brunch, mixology and even barbeque. I recommend starting here and deciding what session most intrigues you. And if you really can’t decide, you can buy Day Passes including two sessions or even the five-session Festival Pass.

Taste of Beverly Hills will be held September 2-5, 2010 at 9900 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California. Tickets are available through the website. I recommend acting soon.

Holiday Inn Express Century City Hotel

Los Angeles, CA 90064

At over $130 for even the cheapest session, the Taste of Beverly Hills is anything but inexpensive, which is all the more reason to save on your stay. Fortunately, one of our favorite hotels near Beverly Hills, the Holiday Inn Express Century City Hotel, is one of the most stylish and accommodating Expresses that we know. The hotel is located less than two miles from the festival, offers free breakfast and Internet, and is dressed to the modern nines you expect in this high-def world. For the money, we’d choose this Century City hotel over the Beverly Hills competition every time. View the packages.

Have fun at Taste of Beverly Hills!

There is so much to do in the Beverly Hills area. Hollywood is the historic home of the old movie studios, and Beverly Hills is still the home of the movie stars. Some ideas when you visit: drive along the western portion of historic Route 66 on Santa Monica Boulevard; stroll along famous Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip; in nearby Burbank, there are many modern movie and television studios; Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm are in nearby Anaheim. And with the beautiful weather, it’s a definite place to visit!
