2012 Chocolate Lovers Festival in Fairfax, Virginia

I realize loyal readers might feel completely inundated with wine, chocolate and Valentine’s Day related blogs but, ‘tis the season, right? I’ll hit you with just one more and then I promise to leave it alone till next year. March 3-4 Fairfax, Virginia is hosting the 2012 Chocolate Lover’s Festival featuring events like the Taste of Chocolate, the Chocolate Challenge and the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast with, you guessed it, chocolate chip pancakes. So give yourself a week to fast then grab your wet-wipes and head to Old Town Fairfax for a weekend of sticky fingers and sweet indulgence.

With “Love of Chocolate” as the theme, the Chocolate Lovers Festival was created in 1993 to help foster a sense of community and bring visitors to Old Town Fairfax. Each year a charitable organization is chosen by the Chocolate Lovers Festival Committee to receive a portion of the proceeds and this year the 2011 grant went to the Kiwanis Club of Fairfax. Prepare for a weekend of chocolate overload coupled with a great cause and many tasty events:

• Chocolate Challenge – Festival attendees explore a chocolate paradise with decadent art and cakes made totally of chocolate. All levels of experience are represented and both judges and visitors can cast their vote in a variety of categories. A silent auction will be held for all the donated items.
• Taste of Chocolate – Local chocolatiers and confectioners put their finest wares on display for the tasting.   Yummy treats include cakes, candies, brownies, fudge, ice cream and much more.
• Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast – The Kiwanis Club dishes up fluffy, melty chocolate chip pancakes (regular pancakes are available if you’re trying to pace yourself), sausage, coffee, juice and milk.
• How to Fabulously Decorate Cupcakes at Home followed by the Cupcake Auction – Master cupcake designers Norman R. Davis and Zane Beg, of Annandale, VA’s The Sweet Life, hold a master-class on creating designer cupcakes right at home. Immediately afterwards a cupcake auction will be held and a few lucky someone’s will leave with a Davis and Beg original.
• Children’s Craft Activities – Little chocolate lovers of all ages can get hands-on with numerous chocolate themed crafts.
