I support the “observance” of St. Patrick’s Day in Washington D.C., I really do. I think liquid medicine is just about the only remaining course of action up on Capitol Hill. (Besides, under current healthcare, it’s the only medicine most everyone can afford). I want all the Senators, Representatives and of course Mr. Obama to drop all the pedantic nonsense, get crazy drunk and proceed to hash things out bro-style.

It’s gonna look awful. C-SPAN meets Jersey Shore. But when all is said and done, we might just have our country back.

You can celebrate the season, too, at the 2010 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Washington D.C. (and if you’re heading in, we’ve got the perfect hotel, so check that out below).

D.C. is a city known for fabulous parades. With so many incredible buildings to set the scene, how could it not be? But without a doubt, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the annual favorites. A spectacle in every sense, the parade culminates popular music, fantastic floats, military reverence, color guard, dance, drums, celebrity guests and a keg-full of Irish swagger.

When I saw that the founder of Chase Bank had been made Grand Marshal, I almost puked out my own intestines, but then I read closely to find that it was actually the founder of Chevy Chase Bank, a D.C. local institution (now owned by Capitol One). That made me feel a little bit better.

Back on message: the 2010 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Washington D.C. will be held Sunday, March 14, and run along Constitution Avenue from 7^th to 17^th Streets. You can watch from anywhere along the parade route, of course, or you can purchase grandstand tickets for a comfy seated view of the action. Sitting down is nice, but for $10 a person, I’d rather just stand. The parade is only two and a half hours long anyway.

Okay, maybe it’s a little early for Spring Break in your neck of the woods, but who knows? Maybe it’s senior year and you promised your future-graduate something awesome. Well, unless you’re MacGyver, something awesome requires a bit of planning.

We’ve talked about Hawaii’s second-largest a couple times before. From Maui golf vacations to whale watching. Today we’re headed back for our most adventurous pick yet: Atlantis Submarine Tours.

The sub is real, and so is the wonderment. Atlantis Submarines Maui invites you aboard a 48-passenger shallow dive submarine for a nearly two-hour tour of the Maui coast – from the fishes’ point of view! Descending more than 100 ft. below the surface, you’ll explore natural and artificial reefs and all the amazing creatures that call them home.

Fairly new to the tour (2005) is the Carthaginian, a 19^th-century supply vessel replica that Atlantis Submarines intentionally sank to create an additional landscape for the tour. This handsome tall ship, now teeming with life and young reef, proves a highlight of the tour if you can turn off your authenticity filter. As someone who loved that Speed Racer movie, I can do that just fine.

The basic tour runs roughly 105 minutes and costs $89.10 per person online (ages 13 and up). That includes a submarine trip only. Atlantis also offers a few combo packages which include the submarine tour along with other popular Maui attractions: Royal Lahaina Luau, Maui Ocean Center, Maui Tropical Plantation, Hawaii Nature Center, snorkeling and dolphin adventures among the choices.

Whether planning for a Spring Break trip to Maui, or any other kind of trip, what’s most important is that you score your reservations early. Like, right now, if you can. With only 48 seats per trip, they do fill up quick, and it’s not like you can just go back any time.

It’d be a shame to stay anywhere but the beach in Maui, so of course we recommend the Maui Oceanfront Inn, located right on Keawakapu Beach – great for couples, great for families, great for anyone who like soft sand and warm sun. Have fun on your Spring Break (or anytime!)

Now here’s one you don’t see often: a Valentine’s Day package that doesn’t so much pamper you with lovey-dovey crap as it does get you off your butt for a little cardio. I’m not sure I see the Valentine’s connection myself, but even with no package at all, Valentine’s Day in Redondo Beach, California is a good idea.

I was surprised to find that Disneyland doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. At least, not enough to put it on the official calendar. It inspires the romantic memories of so many couples, many of them now families, that a little Valentine’s promotion really seems a perfect fit.
